It appears that Blizzard isn’t all that pleased with chats accompanying their Overwatch Contenders streams on Twitch. So, starting today and running throughout the 2018 Season 3 quarterfinals until January 12, the publisher is implementing a new moderation system requiring all chat participants to link their Twitch and Battle.net accounts first.
After this trial period, the team behind Overwatch Contenders and Path to Pro will decide how the system works in the future based on what’s seen in the coming weeks. The explicit goal of the program isn’t stated in the announcement beyond wanting to “improve the viewing experience,” but anyone who’s spent any time whatsoever on Twitch can probably guess what it is they’re trying to get rid of.
Overwatch may have faded somewhat from the limelight, but it’s still quite popular. Check out our review to learn what it is about this game that’s still got so many people playing.
